American Red Cross Hosts Open House in Parker County July 19
(Parker County, TX) July 7, 2010 — You've seen American Red Cross volunteers in action on television and read about them in newspapers. But do you REALLY know who and how the Red Cross impacts your community every day? The Parker County Branch of the Chisholm Trail Chapter will host a Meet-and-Greet/Open House 5-7 p.m. July 19 to give you the opportunity to see how Parker County Red Cross volunteers carry out the mission of preventing, preparing for and responding to disasters. The Branch is located at 1740 Bethel Road, Weatherford Tx. 76086.
Volunteers will demonstrate the capabilities of the Branch’s Canteen vehicle and share their Red Cross adventures and the rewarding work they do to benefit those who have suffered the loss of their home to fire, flood or other disaster.
“When disasters like the Haiti earthquake or the Oklahoma Tornadoes hit, our community wants to help,” said Teresa Filkins, Community Resource & Development Manager. “Our open house will give those interested in volunteering a great opportunity to talk with current Parker County volunteers and learn what it’s like to be a Red Cross volunteer.” In addition to disaster response, other volunteer areas include Health & Safety, Services to the Armed Forces and fundraising.
About the American Red Cross
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to survivors of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
